Ray Wilkins has claimed that Diego Costa is likely to leave Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

The striker’s situation at Stamford Bridge has been a relentless source of speculation in recent months after he was linked with a possible move away from the west London club in January.

Costa has been a key part of Chelsea’s success under Antonio Conte this season, with the striker having helped to fire the Blues to the top of the Premier League table.

However, former Chelsea coach Wilkins suspects that Costa will leave Stamford Bridge in the forthcoming transfer window.

Asked about Costa’s future, Wilkins told Sky Sports News HQ: “Do I see Costa being at Chelsea next season? Probably not, I’d have to say.

“He brings a strength and a power up front. Now, do Chelsea go for an Antoine Griezmann, who’s more of an Eden Hazard-type player, or Romelu Lukaku?

“It’s a very interesting conundrum they find themselves in.

“I think Diego Costa will leave, if I’m being honest. I wouldn’t if I were him, because he’s still only 28. I think he should stay and play in the Champions League with Chelsea.”

Chelsea are currently top of the Premier League table as they prepare for their trip to Goodison Park to take on Everton on Sunday afternoon.
