Ian Wright: Antonio Conte should give Chelsea’s forgotten man a chance
Ian Wright says Michy Batshuayi deserves a chance to prove himself in the Chelsea first team this season
Ian Wright says Michy Batshuayi deserves a chance to prove himself at Chelsea this season under Antonio Conte.
The Belgian striker signed for the Blues from French side Marseille last summer but has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the west London club’s first team.
Indeed, the forward is yet to start a single game for the west London club in the Premier League this season as he bids to help Chelsea win the title.
The 23-year-old has scored five goals in all competitions for Conte’s men so far this term but his last appearance for Chelsea came during the 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace at the start of the month.
And Arsenal legend Wright feels that Batshuayi deserves a chance to prove himself in the Chelsea first team before the season is out.
Wright told BBC Sport’s 606 podcast: “He [Conte] should throw Michy Batshuayi in. He’s never gotten a chance.”
Chelsea are currently gearing up for their crunch FA Cup semi-final showdown against Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday evening.
