Paul Merson picks which Chelsea star should win PFA award
Paul Merson says Eden Hazard should win the PFA player of the year award ahead of Chelsea team-mate N'Golo Kante
Paul Merson says Eden Hazard should win the PFA player of the year award ahead of his Chelsea team-mate N’Golo Kante.
Both of the Chelsea stars have been nominated for the prestigious individual prize thanks to their brilliant form for the Blues this term.
Kante has been one of the Premier League’s top performer since his arrival at Stamford Bridge from Leicester City last summer.
Hazard, meanwhile, has regained his top form and has played a key role in helping Chelsea establish themselves as the favourites for the title.
However, former Arsenal star Merson feels that Hazard should be the player to win the award ahead of Kante this season.
Merson wrote in The Daily Star: “Personally I think Hazard should get the award. I always go for the best footballer in the best team, the player who makes things happen.
“He’s been the match-winner in the big games for Chelsea this season and he’s been different class. Kante would be a worthy winner.”
He added: “But he just doesn’t have Hazard’s talent, and that’s why I’d give the award to him.
Both Hazard and Kante will be expecting to feature for Chelsea when the Blues take on Manchester United in their crunch Premier League clash at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues have twice beaten the Red Devils at Stamford Bridge this season – in both the Premier League and FA Cup.
