Antonio Conte compares Tottenham to Chelsea
Antonio Conte opens up on the threat posed to his Chelsea side by Tottenham Hotspur this season
Antonio Conte has warned his Chelsea side that they are set to face a battle for the title with Tottenham until the death this season.
The Italian manager watched his side retain their seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League table on Saturday thanks to a 3-1 win at Bournemouth.
The win came after Tottenham had closed the gap on Chelsea down to four points after a thumping 4-0 win over Watford at White Hart Lane.
With seven games to go, Tottenham are likely to push the Blues as far as possible as the season reaches its climax.
And the Chelsea manager has warned his players that they can ill afford to get carried away with their position at the top of the table.
Speaking at his post-match news conference on Saturday evening, Conte said: “We have to continue in this way to play game by game and be focused and concentrated, because for sure Tottenham have a great desire to win the title. We must have the same desire.
“Don’t forget last season Tottenham fought for the title until the end which means they are a really good team. Last season Chelsea played for 10th place. Now we are on top of the table.
“Tottenham reinforced the team this season with two or three good players, and I think they are stronger than last season. It’s important to understand this to compare the teams in the right way.”
Chelsea are currently gearing up for their crunch Premier League clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues will also take on Spurs in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley later this month.
