Chelsea star sends Tottenham warning to his team-mates
Gary Cahill tells Chelsea to get their focus back as the Premier League title race hots up
Gary Cahill has warned his Chelsea team-mates that it is time to step their game up in the Premier League title race.
The Chelsea defender was unable to prevent his side from slipping to a damaging 2-0 loss to Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford.
That result left Chelsea just four points clear at the top of the Premier League table as Tottenham closed the gap on their London rivals.
The two teams will do battle in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley on Saturday afternoon but Cahill says that his team-mates need to realise what is at stake – and that the title race is not over.
“There are only six games left, and we are still in a good position,” said Cahill, speaking to Chelsea’s website after Sunday’s game.
“We need to realise it’s not over, we need to realise there are points to play for, and we have to dig in. No-one is going to give us this league, we have to work for it like we have done for the majority of this season.
“We reacted after Palace, we bounced back with two wins so it’s a similar thing. We have to go again. We are still in a great position.”
Chelsea are still chasing a domestic double in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge at the west London club after their disastrous 10th-placed finish last term.
Tottenham, meanwhile, are aiming to build on their third-placed finish in the table last term.
