Pundit issues warning to Chelsea about Tottenham
Pat Nevin warns Chelsea must keep their focus in the Premier League title race as Tottenham continue to pile the pressure on the Blues
Pat Nevin has warned Chelsea that they must keep their focus in the Premier League title race as Tottenham look to keep the pressure up on the Blues.
Chelsea maintained their seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League table at the weekend thanks to their 3-1 win over Bournemouth.
Tottenham, meanwhile, thrashed Watford 4-0 at White Hart Lane to keep up their brilliant form and keep the pressure on Chelsea in the race for the title.
The Blues are still the clear favourites to win the Premier League crown this season but former Chelsea star Nevin has warned the west London side against complacency as the campaign reaches its conclusion.
Writing in his column for Chelsea’s website, Nevin said: “The fly in the ointment is that nothing has been won and Spurs are trying their best to put as much pressure on as possible with their impressive current run.
“Having said that, if Chelsea do win the league it will be that much sweeter if it hasn’t been easy, and that the tension is still around for a while longer.
“For some Chelsea fans it might also be quite sweet to see Spurs hopes being dashed, though personally I do not care which team is closest. For me it is not about them, it is about us.”
Chelsea’s dramatic upturn in form this season under new boss Antonio Conte has been in stark contrast to their struggles last term, when they ended up 10th in the table and without a trophy following the sacking of Jose Mourinho in December 2015.
