Shaun Wright-Phillips has claimed that Chelsea are on a “downward spiral” and says Tottenham could capitalise in the Premier League title race.

The Blues suffered a blow to their title hopes on Sunday when they were thoroughly outplayed and beaten 2-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford.

That allowed Tottenham to close the gap to the leaders down to just four points thanks to their 4-0 win over Bournemouth the day before.

Chelsea are now four points clear at the top with six games to go as the Blues bid to win the title in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge at the club.

However, former Chelsea winger Wright-Phillips feels that the Blues are now feeling intense pressure in the race for the title – and warned that Spurs are ready to capitalise.

Speaking to 888sport, Wright-Phillips said: “In a Premier League race it’s never over until it’s over.

“At one stage it was an 11-point gap and now it’s down to four points so that is nerve-wracking for the players. As we would say it’s squeaky-bum time.

“It could be that they’re on a downward spiral. As big as the characters are in that dressing room I still think there will be a spell where they might get nervy if Tottenham keep going as they are.”

Chelsea take on Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley on Saturday as they look to win a domestic double in Conte’s first campaign at the club.
