Michael Ballack: Chelsea star is a diva but Blues must not sell him
Michael Ballack explains why Chelsea should do what they can to keep Diego Costa at the club beyond the summer
Michael Ballack has warned Chelsea against selling Diego Costa in the summer transfer window.
Costa has not been far away from the headlines this season and his future at Stamford Bridge has been a source of speculation in the last two transfer windows.
However, despite the controversy which never seems to be far away from the striker, Costa has still been one of Chelsea’s best performers this season and has scored more goals than any other Blues player this term.
And former Chelsea midfielder Ballack has warned the west London side against selling Costa in the summer transfer window.
Speaking in an interview with The Daily Express, Ballack said: “No [Chelsea shouldn’t sell Costa].
“He is one of their key players. He is a bit of a diva, mainly in a positive way, but you need those kinds of players as leaders to change games. He steps up and does something unpredictable.
“He’s not an easy player to handle, especially for the coach sometimes, but so far he is doing really well.
“They should not sell him because there are not centre-forwards who can hold the ball, turn, make runs, score. Robert Lewandowski maybe, but not many. I don’t really see a replacement for him right now, so keep him.”
Chelsea are currently leading the way at the top of the Premier League table as they prepare for their trip to Bournemouth on Saturday evening.
The Blues are also through to the FA Cup semi-finals, where they will face Tottenham at Wembley later this month.
