Jamie Redknapp lavished praise on Eden Hazard after the Belgian playmaker set Chelsea on their way towards their 4-2 victory over Southampton in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

Chelsea made a blistering start to the Premier League tie and took the lead in the fifth minute when Hazard fired home a brilliant first-time finish from Diego Costa’s cut-back.

However, Southampton levelled in the 24th minute when former Chelsea man Oriol Romeu scrambled home.

Gary Cahill gave Chelsea the lead on the stroke of half-time with a superb header. Costa then made it 3-1 in the 53rd minute with a header of his own, before the Spaniard added a fourth late on to wrap up a thumping win.

Ryan Bertrand added a second for the visitors late on.

Redknapp was hugely impressed by what he saw from Hazard on Tuesday night and heaped praise on the 26-year-old for his display.

Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game, Redknapp said: “Look at the desire that Hazard shows [for his goal].

“It was a lovely set-back for him by Diego Costa and he just fires the ball right into the bottom corner and the goalkeeper had absolutely no chance. I think it shows you the desire of Costa and Hazard.

“At times they were unplayable today and I think we saw the freshness after the weekend.

“It’s such a good finish, he keeps his head down, gets his chest over the ball and gets it right into the corner.”
