Tony Gale believes that Chelsea should look to bring in Romelu Lukaku if Diego Costa leaves the club in the summer transfer window.

Costa’s future has been a source of speculation in recent months and it remains to be seen whether the Spain striker will still be at Chelsea next season.

The Blues are set to be linked with a number of players in the coming weeks and months as the summer transfer window draws ever nearer.

Everton striker Lukaku has been touted as a possible target for Chelsea in recent weeks as Antonio Conte begins to turn his attentions towards the summer transfer window.

And Gale feels that the former Chelsea man would be a good signing for the Blues, although he admits that the west London club would have to admit the “mistake” of selling him to Everton in the first place.

Gale told Sky Sports News HQ on Wednesday: “Maybe Lukaku [could replace Costa].

“Chelsea will have to admit to a mistake after letting him go slightly earlier in his career. He wasn’t the finished article.

“Chelsea can afford to wait for players to become the finished article. They can send them off like [they did with] Nemanja Matic.”
