Rio Ferdinand described Eden Hazard as the best attacking player in the Premier League after Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.

The Blues headed into the game under some unfamiliar pressure after having lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace in the top flight at the weekend.

Hazard broke the deadlock in the 10th minute in west London when he swept his finish home.

However, Manchester City battled back and were level thanks to Sergio Aguero’s 26th minute equaliser, with the Argentina striker firing home from close range following an error from Thibaut Courtois.

But Chelsea went in 2-1 up at the break after Hazard converted his penalty at the second attempt after Pedro Rodriguez was tripped by Fernandinho in the box.

Speaking during BT Sport‘s coverage of the game, Ferdinand said: “This man, he showed flashes of pure brilliance. It’s why he’s the best attacking player in the league this year.”
