Frank Lampard reacts to Antonio Conte’s team selection in Chelsea v Tottenham
The Chelsea legend reacts to Antonio Conte's starting line-up against Tottenham Hotspur in the 4-2 FA Cup win
Frank Lampard said that Antonio Conte won’t have made his decision to omit Diego Costa and Eden Hazard lightly for Chelsea’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-final.
The Chelsea boss made five changes to his starting line-up at Wembley after the Premier League leaders lost 2-0 to bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend.
Costa and Hazard was noticeable muted during the Premier League defeat as Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera secured three points for Jose Mourinho against his former employers.
And Conte opted to leave out Costa and Hazard for their last-four clash against Spurs, while Asmir Begovic, Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma came out of the team too.
Speaking to BBC Sport about Conte’s team selection ahead of the semi-final, Chelsea’s record goal-scorer Lampard said:
“Conte must have thought long and hard about it. We will see, it will either be a genius move or, if they lose, people will be looking at it.”
Conte’s move was vindicated as Chelsea were 4-2 winners over Tottenham at Wembley and Hazard came off the bench to score for the Blues.
Chelsea are four points clear of Tottenham at the top of the Premier League table.
The Blues are looking to win their second title in three seasons.
