Mark Lawrenson has denied suggestions that Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final showdown with Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday could affect the Premier League title race.

The Blues head into this weekend’s game desperately looking to get back to winning ways after the disappointment of their 2-0 loss to Manchester United last weekend.

Chelsea have now lost two of their last four Premier League games to let Tottenham cut the gap at the top of the table down to just four points with six games remaining.

Spurs have been in fine form in recent weeks and head into this weekend’s clash fresh from their 4-0 win over Bournemouth at White Hart Lane last weekend in what was their seventh win on the spin.

However, former Liverpool star Lawrenson does not believe that Saturday’s game will have any impact on the race for the Premier League title.

Lawrenson wrote in his column for BBC Sport: “I have heard people say that, if Tottenham beat Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final, it will help them win the Premier League too.

“Personally, I don’t think the outcome of this game will make any difference whatsoever to the title race.”
