Charlie Nicholas states tough prediction for Chelsea v Tottenham
Charlie Nicholas is tipping Tottenham to secure an FA Cup semi-final win over Chelsea on Saturday
Charlie Nicholas is tipping Tottenham to edge to victory over Chelsea in Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final clash at Wembley.
The Blues head into the game looking to return to winning ways in the wake of their 2-0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend.
That result blew the title race wide open again and allowed Spurs to close the gap to their London rivals down to just four points with six games left to play.
The two sides are now set to do battle for place in the FA Cup final against either Arsenal or Manchester City on Saturday afternoon.
And former Arsenal star Nicholas is tipping Tottenham to book their spot in the final – but only after extra-time.
Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Nicholas said: “This is such a tough one to call. With one win each against each other and so many similarities to how they function, I can see extra-time, potentially even penalties.
“You look at the differences in their line-ups and it’s really tough to pick them apart. Both defences are so solid and then their attacking, creative players are also similar.
“Eden Hazard and Dele Alli are the big two match winners here, not just in terms of goals, but creating chances for their strikers.
“However, it’s probably that department where I edge towards Spurs, with Diego Costa going off the boil, willing to fight and scrap but not scoring goals, whereas you know Harry Kane will score if he gets a couple of chances.”
Chelsea are chasing an FA Cup and Premier League double in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge at the club after he was appointed at Stamford Bridge last year.
