Paul Merson is backing Chelsea to edge to a tight win against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Saturday evening.

Antonio Conte’s side have started to falter in the title race after Chelsea lost two of their last four Premier League games to leave the door ajar for Spurs.

The Blues suffered a surprise 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge before Manchester United were 2-0 winners against the Premier League leaders at Old Trafford.

Tottenham moved to within four points of Chelsea thanks to a 4-0 victory over Bournemouth at White Hart Lane in Saturday’s early kick-off last weekend.

Conte’s men have already dispatched Manchester United in the FA Cup after a 1-0 win against Jose Mourinho’s side in the quarter-finals in March.

Speaking to Sky Sports about Chelsea’s clash against Tottenham at Wembley on Saturday evening, former Arsenal legend Merson said:

“Tottenham have been steamrollering teams in recent weeks but they have not had a serious test since Gent and Liverpool before that.

Chelsea will want to produce a response and they should edge a close one.”
