Paul Merson is backing Crystal Palace and Arsenal to play out a four-goal thriller in the London derby at Selhurst Park on Monday night.

The Gunners ended a three-game run without a Premier League win on Wednesday night thanks to a comfortable 3-0 win against West Ham United at the Emirates Stadium.

Goals from Mesut Ozil, Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud helped the north London side to secure a much-needed three points and bolster their ailing top-four bid.

Arsenal managed to hoist themselves above Manchester United and into fifth place in the Premier League table courtesy of their superior goal difference.

Palace surrendered a 1-0 lead to lose 3-1 to Southampton at St Mary’s on Wednesday night, although Christian Benteke continued his goal-scoring run.

Former Arsenal midfielder Merson believes Monday night’s London derby will be an end-to-end affair as both Sam Allardyce and Arsene Wenger go all out for victory.

“This could be a thriller. I don’t think Arsenal’s defence will be able to cope with Palace’s attack, and vice versa. Both sides will want to win because a draw isn’t ideal for either team,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“Sam Allardyce will know how to cause Arsenal problems and I think it will end up being a draw. If results go against them this weekend then it looks like the top four will be done.”

Arsenal finished in second place in the Premier League table last season.
