Gary Neville reacts to Eden Hazard’s display in Chelsea’s 2-0 loss at Man United
Gary Neville claims Eden Hazard showed a lack of maturity during Chelsea's 2-0 loss to Manchester United on Sunday
Gary Neville said he was left disappointed by Eden Hazard’s performance during Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Blues failed to click into gear at Old Trafford against Jose Mourinho’s men as the Red Devils secured a largely dominant win over the Blues.
Goals from Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera wrapped up the three points for the hosts and blew the title race wide open, leaving Chelsea just four points clear of Tottenham with six games left to play.
And former Manchester United defender Neville singled out Hazard for criticism for failing to deal with the fact that he was being man-marked by Herrera for most of the game.
Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Neville said: “I would put him in the top 10 players in the world, I really think he could get to that Gareth Bale level.
“[But] the amount of times we’ve seen Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo try to be dealt with during matches over the years in different ways… they always find a way.
“He should a lack maturity in this game, in terms of not understanding how to cause maximum damage and help his team most when he was being man-marked. He disappointed me today.”
Chelsea must now dust themselves down quickly as they look to get back on track, with an FA Cup semi-final clash against Tottenham looming this weekend.
The Blues will then take on Southampton at home in their next Premier League game next week.
