Paul Merson has told Chelsea to prepare for life without Eden Hazard if Real Madrid come calling for the Belgian in the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old has been one of the Premier League’s standout players this season and his fine form has helped Chelsea establish themselves as the favourites to win the title.

Hazard has scored 14 goals and made five assists in the Premier League for Antonio Conte’s men to help the Blues top the Premier League table.

His fine performances have not gone unnoticed by his fellow peers, with Hazard having been nominated for the PFA player of the year award following his sparkling displays.

Hazard has been linked with a possible summer transfer to Real Madrid in recent weeks.

And former Arsenal star Merson believes that the playmaker will be sure to leave Stamford Bridge this summer if Real Madrid do come calling.

“Real Madrid want Eden Hazard, who’s the other outstanding candidate on the [PFA award] list, and joining them is the pinnacle of anyone’s career,” Merson wrote in his Daily Star column.

“If a £100m bid comes in for him, he’ll be off. Chelsea would be stupid to turn it down and Hazard would have to be tempted.”
