Kevin Kilbane hailed Marcos Alonso’s stylish free-kick after the defender scored Chelsea’s third goal in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Bournemouth.

The Premier League leaders started the Premier League clash on Saturday evening just four points ahead of second-placed Tottenham Hotspur after Spurs were 4-0 winners against Watford in the day’s early kick-off.

Adam Smith scored a first-half own goal after he deflected Diego Costa’s effort into his own net before Eden Hazard netted his third goal in two games with a composed finish after rounding Bournemouth goalkeeper Artur Boruc.

The home side equalised thanks to Joshua King’s powerful strike before Alonso restored the away side’s two-goal cushion with his own wonder goal.

The Chelsea left-back whipped a free-kick past Boruc in the second half to secure three points and restore the west London side’s advantage at the top of the table.

Speaking to NBCSN about Alonso’s set-piece effort, former Republic of Ireland defender Kilbane heaped praise on the Spanish defender.

“That is top class. He knows exactly what he is doing. His execution is perfect. The pace and precision on the free-kick is superb from Alonso,” Kilbane said.
