Frank Lampard says Chelsea need the big characters in their squad to rally the other players for a final push in the title race.

The Blues lost 2-0 to bitter rivals Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon following goals from Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera.

The Manchester United striker broke the deadlock in the first half with a close-range finish before Herrera’s deflected strike doubled the home side’s lead.

Chelsea’s lead at the top of the table was cut to seven points after Tottenham Hotspur were 4-0 winners against Bournemouth at White Hart Lane on Saturday afternoon.

Spurs are four points adrift of Antonio Conte’s side with six games to go in the title race.

Speaking to Sky Sports about Chelsea’s faltering form in the climax of the 2016-17 season, Blues legend Lampard offered some insight into what needs to happen in the dressing room over the next week.

“It’s tough because losing games brings an element of doubt,” Lampard said.

“You could see it on the faces of the players walking off the pitch. They need the big characters in the team to settle the ship and work hard in the week and put in the performances that they have been doing all season.”
