Gary Neville has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur could “damage” Chelsea’s season by beating them in the FA Cup semi-finals later this month.

Spurs managed to close the gap to the Premier League leaders down to seven points on Saturday when they capitalised on Chelsea’s shock 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge.

Tottenham look set to be Chelsea’s closest challengers for the title this season as the Blues look to win the Premier League in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge at the club.

Spurs and Chelsea will also do battle at Wembley later this month as both London clubs look to reach the FA Cup final.

And former Manchester United defender Neville believes that the game could add an extra spice to the title race if Tottenham are able to claim victory.

Speaking on Sky Sports News HQ on Monday morning, Neville said: “Tottenham play Chelsea in the FA cup and it’s worth mentioning that game.

“Tottenham could damage them in that game potentially.

“I know it’s not the Premier League but psychologically, if they did get the points gap nearer in this next couple of weeks and then beat them in the FA Cup, that could put a big seed of doubt in their minds.”
