Pundit reacts to Granit Xhaka’s display in Arsenal’s 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace
Alan Smith criticises Granit Xhaka for his poor passing display during Arsenal's loss at Crystal Palace
Alan Smith criticised Granit Xhaka for his below-par performance during Arsenal’s 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Monday night.
The Switzerland international started the game in central midfield alongside Mohamed Elneny as Arsenal looked to make it back to back wins in the Premier League.
However, it ended up being a difficult first half for Arsene Wenger’s men and they fell behind in the 17th minute when Andros Townsend fired home.
Yohan Cabaye then scored a second in the 63rd minute to double the home side’s lead, before Luka Milivojevic’s penalty made it 3-0 to the hosts.
Xhaka misplaced a number of passes both before and after the break, and former Arsenal star Smith was clearly not impressed by the summer signing’s performance at Selhurst Park.
Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game, Smith said: “Granit Xhaka’s passing tonight was not good enough.”
Arsenal will now turn their attentions towards their Premier League trip to Middlesbrough on Monday night as they look to keep their fading top-four hopes alive.
Xhaka has scored one goal and made two assists in 24 Premier League games for Arsenal so far this season since joining the club from Borussia Monchengladbach last summer.
