Jamie Carragher warns Jurgen Klopp about major Liverpool signings
The Liverpool legend believes Jurgen Klopp needs to overhaul his squad in the summer ahead of their return to Champions League
Jamie Carragher has warned Jurgen Klopp that Liverpool need major reinforcements in the summer transfer window.
The Reds are on course to finish in the Premier League’s top four for the first time since 2014 when Brendan Rodgers led Liverpool to a second-placed finish.
Klopp replaced the Northern Irishman back in October 2015 and the charismatic manager led the Reds to eighth spot following a mixed end to the season.
The former Borussia Dortmund boss signed seven players in an attempt to overhaul the Liverpool squad ahead of the 2016-17 campaign.
While Sadio Mane and Joel Matip have proven big hits at Anfield, Klopp’s other new signings have struggled to have a positive impact on the 18-time English champions.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher believes Klopp is facing another vital summer in the transfer market to ensure progress at the Merseyside club.
“We always felt Liverpool didn’t have the squad to go through a full season, and that’s without European football.
“There has got to be major reinforcements at Liverpool in the summer to the XI but more to the squad as well, because they’re going to have European football, whichever competition that they’re in.
“If Liverpool are in a problem position with 20 minutes to go, there’s not a lot coming off the bench.”
Liverpool were 3-1 winners against Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield on Saturday afternoon thanks to goals from Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi.
