Jim Beglin reacts to Philippe Coutinho’s free-kick in Liverpool v Crystal Palace
The former Liverpool midfielder hails Philippe Coutinho's opener in a 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace on Sunday
Jim Beglin hailed Philippe Coutinho’s majestic free-kick in Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace at Anfield in Sunday’s Premier League clash.
The Brazil international broke the deadlock in the 24th minute with a stunning set-piece to calm Liverpool nerves after their top-four rivals Manchester United won 2-0 at Burnley in the day’s early kick-off.
Coutinho won the free-kick after the South American was brought down outside the area and the Brazilian stepped up before whipping a delicious effort past Palace goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey in the first half at Anfield.
Former Liverpool midfielder Beglin heaped praise on Coutinho after his stunning set-piece broke the deadlock on Merseyside.
“It is majestic. The curl he got on it was always taking it away from the goalkeeper. It is another beauty from him,” Beglin told NBC.
Beglin added: “He punished them [Palace] handsomely.”
Coutinho’s free-kick wasn’t enough to secure three points as former Liverpool striker Christian Benteke scored twice against the Reds to seal a 2-1 win.
Coutinho has scored 13 free-kick goals during his Liverpool career so far after his £8.5m move from Serie A giants Inter Milan in January 2013.
The Brazilian midfielder has scored nine goals and has made six assists in 26 appearances in the 2016-17 season.
