Jose Mourinho has claimed that he played young players such as Kurt Zouma and Ruben Loftus-Cheek more often during his last season at Chelsea than Antonio Conte is doing this term.

The Portuguese coach was sacked by the Blues back in December 2015 after a disastrous start to the season left the west London club closer to the relegation zone than the top of the table.

Mourinho has been relying on the likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial at Manchester United this season.

And the former Chelsea boss has claimed that he gave more youngsters a chance during his last season at Chelsea than Conte has been doing in the current campaign.

Mourinho told The Guardian: “In my last season at Chelsea I think Ruben Loftus-Cheek got more games than he is getting at the moment, and so did Kurt Zouma.

“But young players who come into the first team and are good enough to stay there forever are very rare.

“If that happens, it is because the player is ready and there are not many like that.”

Chelsea are currently flying high at the top of the Premier League table as they chase a domestic double in Conte’s first season in charge at the club.

The west London side will travel to Old Trafford to take on Mourinho’s Manchester United side on Sunday afternoon.
