Rio Ferdinand opens up about Alexis Sanchez after Arsenal’s FA Cup win
Rio Ferdinand praises Alexis Sanchez for stepping up to the plate in Arsenal's 2-1 win over Manchester City
Rio Ferdinand praised Alexis Sanchez for stepping up to the plate when it counted after he fired Arsenal to a 2-1 FA Cup semi-final win over Manchester City after extra-time.
Sergio Aguero had given Manchester City the lead in the second half at Wembley but Nacho Monreal equalised for Arsene Wenger’s men shortly after to force the game into extra-time.
And it was Sanchez who proved the hero, as he fired home from close range in the first half of extra-time to book Arsenal’s place in the final.
Arsenal will now take on Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley next month and former Manchester United defender Ferdinand was very impressed by what he saw from Sanchez on Sunday.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Ferdinand said: “He stepped up.
“You want your star man to step up and create moments that define games and he did that today – he got the winner.”
Arsenal now turn their attentions back to Premier League affairs and the race for a top-four finish.
The north London side are currently seventh in the Premier League table as they prepare for their clash with Leicester City at The Emirates on Wednesday night.
