Arsene Wenger has remained tightlipped about speculation linking Arsenal with a huge contract offer for Alexis Sanchez.

The Chile international’s future has been a source of relentless speculation in recent months following talks between Arsenal and Sanchez.

The 28-year-old hasn’t signed a contract extension with the north London club despite having less than 15 months remaining on his current deal.

The former Barcelona and Udinese forward was Arsenal’s only nomination for the PFA player of the year award this season.

Sanchez has scored 18 times and has made nine assists in 30 appearances in the Premier League in the 2016-17 campaign.

Arsenal are reported to have made the South American a new lucrative contract offer ahead of the summer transfer window.

But speaking at his pre-match media conference ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Middlesbrough in their next Premier League clash on Monday night, Wright said:

“First of all, I cannot confirm that we have offered that. Secondly, we will do as always.

“We have to consider our financial potential to sustain the wages for the whole squad.

“What is for sure is that what is paid per week today was 20 years ago per year. Will that continue to go up? I don’t know. I’m always tempted to say no but I was wrong on that front.”
