Robert Pires: The difference between Arsenal target and Thierry Henry

The Arsenal legend says it is too early to compare Kylian Mbappe to Premier League icon Thierry Henry

Robert Pires has played down comparisons between Kylian Mbappe and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

The Monaco forward has established himself as one of the most-exciting players in the Champions League after a breakthrough campaign at Ligue 1.

Mbappe has been linked with a big-money move to the Premier League in the summer transfer window after his eye-catching Champions League performances.

The Monaco starlet’s agent claimed earlier this week that Manchester City and Manchester United are the only Premier League clubs that can afford Mbappe.

Arsene Wenger confirmed that he has been monitoring Mbappe as the Arsenal manager looks to bolster his attack this summer.

Pires has already backed Arsenal to win the race to sign Mbappe in the summer transfer window despite intense competition for the Monaco teenager.

However, the Arsenal legend was quick to rubbish increasing comparisons between Premier League icon Henry and France teenager Mbappe.

“The comparison is unnecessary, he’s not ready to be compared to Thierry. Mbappe is a very similar player but to compare the two players would be unfair,” Pires told bwin.

“I hope that Kylian can follow in the footsteps of Thierry Henry, he has the same profile as Thierry – quick, strong and a great finisher but he’s very young so I would hold off on comparisons just yet.”
