Paul Merson says Arsenal can now finish in the top four this season after Liverpool’s surprise defeat by Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Liverpool suffered a surprise 2-1 loss to Crystal Palace at Anfield on Sunday afternoon to give Arsenal hope in the race for Champions League qualification.

That result means that Arsenal can move level on points with Liverpool if they win their three games in hand over the Reds.

And former Arsenal star Merson feels that the north London side now have a great chance of finishing in the top four again after last weekend’s results.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Merson said: “The Gunners have games in hand and if they can get maximum points from them they are going to be right back in it.

“If Liverpool had beaten Palace, I think Arsenal may have put all their efforts into winning the FA Cup. Now, if they can beat Leicester, they can give themselves a real chance of finishing in the top four.

“I know they’ve got a massive game against Tottenham on Super Sunday but after that, they haven’t got the worst run-in.”

Arsenal are currently gearing up for their clash with Leicester City at The Emirates on Wednesday night as they look to take their first step towards closing the gap to Liverpool.
