Rio Ferdinand uses FA Cup win to make blunt point about Arsenal
Rio Ferdinand claims that Arsenal's FA Cup win over Manchester City is what allows pundits to criticise the Gunners
Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Arsenal’s impressive comeback win over Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-finals on Sunday was the kind of performance which gives pundits the licence to criticise Arsene Wenger’s men.
Goals from Nacho Monreal and Alexis Sanchez cancelled out Sergio Aguero’s opener and secured the Gunners’ spot against Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley next month.
The win was a welcome one for Arsenal fans, with the Gunners having struggled in all competitions in recent weeks.
However, Manchester United legend Ferdinand feels that the fact that Arsenal performed so well on Sunday means that pundits have the right to criticise the north Londoners when they do not perform.
Speaking on BT Sport, Ferdinand said: “This [the win against Manchester City] is what allows us to cast doubt on this team.
“You can have this performance here and then what we saw in the last few league games, when they’re powder-puff.”
Arsenal are currently preparing for their Premier League clash against Leicester City at The Emirates on Wednesday night.
The north London side have dropped down into seventh place in the table after a stuttering run of form in the English top flight.
