Thierry Henry has admitted that some of his former Arsenal team-mates would have a go at Mesut Ozil about his inconsistent performances.

The Germany international has struggled to produce top performances on a regular basis throughout the 2016-17 season.

Ozil finished with a staggering 19 assists and six goals last term as Arsene Wenger’s side finished as Premier League runners-up.

However, the World Cup winner has only created five goals and has netted just five times in the current campaign.

Ozil has failed to agree a contract extension with the north London side with 15 months remaining on his Arsenal deal.

Arsenal signed Ozil in a club-record 42.5m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid back in August 2013.

Henry was part of the last Arsenal side to win the Premier League title as the French legend helped the Gunners go unbeaten throughout the 2003-04 season.

The former Arsenal captain wants to see more from the German playmaker, adding that some of his former team-mates would be more demanding of the club’s No10.

“Mesut Ozil is a weird one. He can clearly play. We all know that he has ability,” Henry told Sky Sports News HQ.

“If he was in our team, I know a couple of guys that would have had a go at him. Maybe that’s what he needs. I don’t know. When he plays, he doesn’t always play like he can. You have to give him his respect.”

Ozil has won two FA Cup crowns since his move to Arsenal but hasn’t been able to help Wenger’s men win an elusive Premier League title.
