Chelsea have better depth on their bench than title rivals Tottenham Hotspur, according to Alan Shearer.

Spurs have been putting their London rivals under pressure in the Premier League title race in recent weeks after a run of seven successive top-flight wins.

Tottenham moved to within four points of Chelsea after Spurs were 4-0 winners against Bournemouth before Antonio Conte’s side lost 2-0 to Manchester United.

However, the west London side reasserted their authority with a 4-2 win against Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.

Conte was able to turn to his bench with the scorelines at 2-2 to bring on Diego Costa and Eden Hazard before Cesc Fabregas was introduced later on.

Hazard scored Chelsea’s third goal before the Belgium international teed up Nemanja Matic for his sensational goal to put the last-four tie to bed.

Speaking to BBC Sport about the difference between Chelsea and Tottenham in the title race, former Blackburn Rovers striker Shearer said:

“The benches illustrated the difference in depth between the two teams, because Chelsea’s substitutes made a huge difference, and Tottenham’s didn’t,” Shearer said.

“It obviously helps when you have got big hitters like Hazard, Costa and Fabregas to come on – but I still think Spurs wasted a great opportunity to beat a weakened Chelsea side.”
