Antonio Conte has thanked John Terry for the professionalism he has shown during what has been a frustrating season for the Chelsea captain.

Terry has found his first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge to be severely restricted this season following Conte’s appointment at the club last summer.

Indeed, the veteran defender has only made a total of six Premier League appearances this season following Conte’s arrival.

The 36-year-old defender was given a brief run out in the second half of Chelsea’s 4-2 win over Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

And speaking at his post-match news conference, Conte singled Terry out for special praise for the attitude he has shown this season despite his lack of playing time.

Conte said: “John is a really important player for us and he’s doing a great job this season.

“For sure it’s not easy for him because he’s not playing a lot. I want to say thanks to John but he knows my admiration for him. He’s helping me and the team, every single player.

“Hs always available to accept every one of my decisions. When you have this type of player you must be pleased. It will be a great loss next season to lose a player like him.”

Terry will be hoping to be involved for Chelsea when the Blues return to Premier League action on Sunday afternoon with a trip to Goodison Park to take on Everton.

Chelsea are leading the way at the top of the Premier League table and are also chasing FA Cup glory this term.
