Antonio Conte sends message to Chelsea fans about Willian
The Chelsea manager heaps praise on Brazil midfielder Willian after the 4-2 FA Cup win over Tottenham
Antonio Conte has spoken of his delight at seeing Willian have a decisive impact on Chelsea’s 4-2 win against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-final.
The Brazil international was handed a starting spot ahead of Eden Hazard for the trip to Wembley after the Chelsea number 10 struggled during their 2-0 loss to Manchester United in the Premier League.
Willian rewarded his manager’s faith with the opening goal in the last-four clash after the 28-year-old fired a powerful free-kick past Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Chelsea were presented a chance to restore their lead after Harry Kane’s equaliser when Son Heung-min brought down Victor Moses in Lloris’ penalty area before half-time.
And Willian stepped up to dispatch the spot-kick and give Chelsea a 2-1 lead before Hazard and Nemanja Matic wrapped up a 4-2 win following Dele Alli’s second-half goal.
Speaking at his post-match media conference about Willian’s performance in the FA Cup semi-final, Chelsea manager Conte said:
“I am pleased for Willian because he showed to be in good form and for him this season was not easy for many reasons.”
Chelsea are four points clear of their closest Premier League title rivals Tottenham.
