Antonio Conte insisted that Cesc Fabregas will prove to be a very important player for Chelsea between now and the end of the season after the Spaniard helped to fire the Blues to a 4-2 win over Southampton on Tuesday night.

Fabregas started against the Saints and played 76 minutes as he helped Chelsea secure the three points thanks to goals from Eden Hazard, Gary Cahill and two from Diego Costa.

The 29-year-old set up Costa’s header in the second half as he notched up his eighth assist in the Premier League this season.

And speaking about his decision to start Fabregas in Tuesday night’s game at Stamford Bridge, Conte told Sky Sports: “I think Cesc is a player who can play in different positions.

“He has a great personality and great quality and in this part of the season for us it is very important to have him.”
