Cesc Fabregas has admitted that Chelsea have probably benefitted from not having any European football this season.

The Blues have been able to focus purely on domestic affairs in Antonio Conte’s first season at the club following his appointment last summer and Chelsea’s 10th placed finish last term.

Chelsea are currently flying high at the top of the table and will look to extend their lead to seven points when they take on Southampton at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.

The west London side also booked their place in the FA Cup final on Saturday thanks to a 4-2 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

And Chelsea midfielder Fabregas feels that a lack of European football has allowed Conte to stick with a regular starting 11 this term.

Speaking to Sky Sports after Saturday’s win, Fabregas said: “It’s the first time Chelsea have not been in Europe for a very long time.

“Maybe it has been a little bit of an advantage because we didn’t have to rotate as much.”
