Pundit: These five Tottenham players would improve Chelsea side
Danny Murphy believes there are five Tottenham players who would command a place in the Chelsea starting line-up
Danny Murphy has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur have five players who would command a place in the Chelsea side.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side are in second place in the Premier League table and four points behind current leaders Chelsea with six games to go in the title race.
However, Tottenham have the best attacking and defensive record in the Premier League this season despite trailing their London rivals in the top-flight table.
Murphy, who captained Spurs during a brief stint at White Hart Lane, believes Danny Rose is a superior left-back than Marcos Alonso.
The ex-midfielder is also convinced that Belgium international Toby Alderweireld is better than all three of Chelsea’s current centre-halves – Cesar Azpilicueta, Gary Cahill and David Luiz.
Moving into midfielder, the Evening Standard columnist added that Moussa Dembele would start ahead of Nemanja Matic, while Dele Alli would be a more exciting option than Pedro or Willian.
Finally, Murphy explained why prolific England international Harry Kane would command a place in Antonio Conte’s side at the expense of Diego Costa.
Writing in his Evening Standard column ahead of Saturday evening’s FA Cup semi-final between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, Murphy said:
“Tottenham have at least five players who would make Chelsea better straight away.
“I would take Toby Alderweireld over anyone in the Chelsea back three and, on the left, I’d rather have Danny Rose than Marcos Alonso.
“In midfield, I’d take Mousa Dembele ahead of Nemanja Matic — all day long. Dele Alli would be included over Pedro or Willian, while I’d prefer Harry Kane to Diego Costa.
“I could see why some people might go the other way but Kane is a little more reliable. You could also make a strong case for Hugo Lloris over Thibaut Courtois in any composite XI.”
