Ian Wright: This Chelsea star isn’t producing title-winning performances
The former Arsenal striker hasn't been impressed with Diego Costa's recent performances in the Chelsea side
Ian Wright doesn’t believe Chelsea striker Diego Costa in in title-winning form.
The Spain international cut a frustrated figure in Antonio Conte’s side during Chelsea’s 2-0 loss to bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Costa failed to test Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea as Jose Mourinho’s centre-halves Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo kept a handle on Chelsea’s leading goal-scorer.
The former Atletico Madrid forward was heavily linked with a big-money move to China in the January transfer window which led to a reported falling out with his manager.
Costa has scored 17 times in 30 games in the 2016-17 Premier League season but the 28-year-old has only netted three goals in 12 top-flight fixtures in 2017 so far.
Former Arsenal striker Wright delivered his blunt verdict on Costa’s recent performances in the Chelsea side.
“Diego Costa isn’t as potent as he should be for a team that is trying to finish off a Premier League title run-in. He isn’t in it,” Wright told BBC Radio’s 606 podcast.
Chelsea are sitting four points clear of second-placed Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League title race.
The west London side will take on Spurs in their FA Cup semi-final next weekend.
