Antonio Conte sends message to Chelsea supporters about Eden Hazard
Antonio Conte explains why he is hopeful that Eden Hazard will still be a Chelsea player at the start of next season
Antonio Conte has told Chelsea fans that the club will have the final say about Eden Hazard’s future this summer.
The Belgian playmaker has been back to his best in the Premier League this season and his fine form has helped Chelsea to top the Premier League table.
Hazard was nominated for the PFA player of the year and has scored 15 goals in the Premier League as Chelsea chase their second title in three seasons.
The 26-year-old seems to have been relentlessly linked with a move to Real Madrid over the last couple of months, with the Spanish giants said to be lining up a bid for the former Lille star.
However, Conte has insisted that he does not get the impression that Chelsea will sell Hazard this summer, despite admitting that the Belgian’s future is out of his own hands.
“It’s impossible for me to take this responsibility to give a guarantee – not only for Eden but for every single player,” Conte told a news conference at Cobham on Friday.
“In this situation it is the club who have the final decision – and that is right.
“I don’t think that the idea to sell is in the mind of the club. We have to improve the team, to reinforce it.
“In football, there is also the will of the player. But I think Eden is very happy to stay at Chelsea and work with us. I can tell this. But I don’t have a crystal ball to see into the future.”
Conte added: “I’m not surprised that he is relaxed. Because Eden is happy to stay.
“His family is very happy here, the fans love him. There are a lot of positive things that bring him to stay and to try to reach his best with this club.”
Hazard will be expecting to start for Chelsea when the Blues take on Everton at Goodison Park in Sunday’s crunch Premier League clash.
