Pundit: The difference between Chelsea’s Eden Hazard and Dele Alli

Ossie Ardiles believes Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli is more of a complete player than Chelsea forward Eden Hazard.

The Blues playmaker is one of the favourites to win the PFA player of the year award following an eye-catching season from the number ten.

Alli was surprisingly excluded from the six-man shortlist, although the Tottenham midfielder is in the running to win the PFA young player of the year.

Hazard has scored 14 goals and has made five assists in 29 appearances in the Premier League this season to help Antonio Conte’s side build a four-point lead at the top.

Alli, on the other hand, has netted 16 times and has created five goals for his team-mates in 31 appearances for the north London side in his second season in the Premier League.

Speaking to The Daily Express ahead of Chelsea’s clash against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, Ardiles discussed the differences between Alli and Hazard.

“It is always difficult to make comparisons because players have different attributes,” Ardiles said.

“They are very, very similar in some ways, different in others. Both, though, are tremendous players, both are very, very talented. Both can create chances and take them.

“Alli can score more goals than Hazard. Hazard plays more on the left, while Alli likes to play behind the front player. Of the two Alli is the more complete player because he can also defend when he has to and he does that very well.”
