Gary Neville has accused Eden Hazard of showing a lack of maturity during Chelsea’s 2-0 loss at Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

The Belgium international is widely regarded as one of the best Premier League players in the 2016-17 season so far.

Hazard had scored 14 goals and had made five assists in 29 appearances before Chelsea’s long trip to Old Trafford in the Premier League.

However, the 26-year-old failed to have an impact on the Premier League clash as Ander Herrera kept close tabs on the Chelsea forward.

Goals from Marcus Rashford and Herrera sealed a comfortable 2-0 win for Manchester United to leave Chelsea a mere four points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking to Monday Night Football about Hazard’s performance at Old Trafford, former Manchester United defender Neville said:

“He showed a lack of maturity and a little bit of naivety. He almost thought ‘this is really difficult, he’s man-marking me’ and accepted it.

“He didn’t go and do something different. Hazard fell short in his understanding of playing against the man-marker. He needed to play high and wide or high and through the middle – and next time he might.”

Hazard moved to Chelsea from Ligue 1 side Lille in the 2012 summer transfer window.

The Belgian forward scored 14 times in 38 games in Chelsea’s title-winning campaign in 2014-15.
