John Terry insists he is committed to helping Chelsea finish the Premier League season on a high under Antonio Conte.

The 36-year-old confirmed on Monday that he will leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the current campaign after a long career at the west London club.

The former England international has struggled to break into Conte’s starting line-up in the 2016-17 season after the Italian took over the reins at the end of the 2015-16 season.

Terry has been unable to dislodge Chelsea centre-halves Cesar Azpilicueta, Gary Cahill and David Luiz as the trio have forged an impressive defensive partnership this term.

Chelsea lost 2-0 to bitter rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon following goals from Marcus Rashford and Ander Herrera.

Terry opted to announce his plans to retire less than 24 hours after Chelsea’s surprise 2-0 defeat by Manchester United.

However, the Blues captain is determined to do his utmost to help Chelsea get over the line in the Premier League title race.

“I want to stress that the journey is not yet over,” Terry told Chelsea’s website.

“There is a long way to go and we are committed to ending this campaign on a high. I am fully focused on helping the team and manager in every way I can from now until the end of the season.”
