Gary Neville has claimed that John Terry could provide some much-needed stability in the Chelsea defence between now and the end of the season.

The veteran defender announced on Monday that he will be leaving Chelsea at the end of the season after a glittering career at Stamford Bridge.

Terry, 36, has found his first-team opportunities to be severely restricted this season, with the defender having only made five Premier League appearances so far this term.

However, Chelsea have struggled to keep clean sheets in recent weeks and have not shut out the opposition in the Premier League since January.

And former Manchester United defender Neville feels that Terry could be the man to step in and help Chelsea’s rearguard as the season reaches its climax.

Neville said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football: “They haven’t kept a clean sheet for quite a bit now and I think he could be quite useful for them.

“If they needed someone with experience in this last month to get them over the line, he might be the man they need to call on.

“He’s got the experience, the resilience, the robustness and that toughness which would get his team-mates over line. He may be Chelsea’s most important player in the next few weeks.”
