Paul Merson tipped Chelsea to win the Premier League title when asked to predict the table before the start of the season.

The former Arsenal star was asked by Sky Sports to predict exactly where he was expecting each and every team to finish in the table this season, and tipped Chelsea to win the title under Antonio Conte, despite the Blues having slumped to a 10th-placed finish last season.

Chelsea are currently four points clear at the top of the table as they battle with second-placed Tottenham for the Premier League title this season.

Merson explained his prediction back on 9 August 2016: “I’m going for Chelsea to be champions on the strength of the manager, Antonio Conte, and Eden Hazard. The Belgium international had a terrible campaign last season, but could still be the best player in the league. If he gets going again then the Blues could sneak their way to the top.”

Merson also tipped Manchester United to finish third in the Premier League table in Jose Mourinho’s first season in charge.

But the Red Devils have some work to do if they want to live up to Merson’s prediction, with Manchester United currently fifth in the table after 31 games.

Merson also backed Arsenal to finish fourth ahead of Liverpool in fifth, and Tottenham, who are currently second, to come sixth.
