Martin Keown sends warning to Chelsea about Arsenal
The former Arsenal defender believes Arsene Wenger's side are capable of halting Chelsea's charge to the double
Martin Keown has warned Chelsea that Arsenal are capable of causing an upset in the FA Cup final at Wembley next month.
The Blues edged a step closer to winning the double in Antonio Conte’s first season in charge at Stamford Bridge after Chelsea were 4-2 winners against Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-final.
Goals from Willian, Eden Hazard and Nemanja Matic in the six-goal thriller against their title rivals helped Chelsea to reach their first FA Cup final since 2012.
Chelsea are in pole position to win the Premier League title after the leaders eased to a 4-2 victory over Southampton in the west London on Tuesday night.
Conte’s side are four points clear of their closest title rivals Tottenham Hotspur with four games to go in the title race.
Writing in his Daily Mail column on Thursday afternoon ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Everton at the weekend, Keown said: “It is not a foregone conclusion that Chelsea will win the Double.
“What we saw from Arsenal against Manchester City at Wembley was quite inspired.
“Plenty of people had written off Arsenal but it was their best performance of the season. They showed all the ingredients you need to be a winner.”
“Where Chelsea have a real advantage is their strength in depth. Leaving Eden Hazard and Diego Costa on the bench in an FA Cup semi-final was similar to if we had left out Marc Overmars and Dennis Bergkamp!”
Chelsea are looking to win their second Premier League title in three seasons.
