Antonio Conte opens up about Chelsea duo: I trust them
The Chelsea manager insists he trusts Nathan Ake and Michy Batshuayi after Saturday's FA Cup semi-final win
Antonio Conte insists he trusts Nathan Ake and Michy Batshuayi after the Chelsea duo produced impressive performances in Saturday evening’s 4-2 win against Tottenham Hotspur.
The Chelsea manager made five changes to the Blues team that lost 2-0 to bitter rivals Manchester United in the Premier League last weekend.
Batshuayi was drafted into the Chelsea side to replace Diego Costa up front, while Ake was selected ahead of John Terry to replace absent Gary Cahill.
The Dutch starlet was praised for his composed performance in the heart of Conte’s defence as Chelsea secured their place in the FA Cup final.
Speaking at his post-match media conference at Wembley following Saturday evening’s six-goal thriller, Conte said of Ake and Batshuayi: “I am pleased because Michy started this really important game, and it is very important for him and for his confidence.
“The same for Ake, who is a young player from our Academy and we must be proud to see his commitment and the level that he played in this game as it is not easy.
“I trust them and I trust every single player, and today I showed this.”
Chelsea are four points clear of Tottenham in the Premier League title race with six games to go.
The west London side will take on EFL Cup runners-up Southampton in their next top-flight fixture at St Mary’s.
Chelsea are looking to win a second title with three seasons.
