Ray Wilkins has hailed N’Golo Kante’s impact at Chelsea under Antonio Conte in his first season at Stamford Bridge.

The France international was named the PFA player of the year at the weekend after the defensive midfielder established himself as a key player for the new Chelsea manager.

Kante has scored one goal and has made one assist in 31 appearances in the 2016-17 Premier League campaign after missing one fixture through suspension.

The 26-year-old is on the brink of winning his second Premier League title in successive seasons with different clubs after Kante won the top-flight crown with Leicester City last term.

The holding midfielder helped Chelsea to reach the FA Cup final on Saturday evening thanks to a 4-2 win against bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.

Former Chelsea midfielder Wilkins heaped praise on Kante after the Frenchman’s stunning impact at Stamford Bridge in the 2016-17 season.

“He’s given them a totally different dimension,” Wilkins told Sky Sports News HQ.

“They had Nemanja Matic two years ago who was magnificent but now they’ve had two of them at the top of their form. The two of them, when they sit in front of that back three, they are rock solid.

“Kante has been a breath of fresh air.”
