Ryan Giggs: Why this Chelsea star deserves player of the year ahead of Eden Hazard
The former Man United midfielder believes Chelsea star N'Golo Kante has been better than his team-mate Eden Hazard
Ryan Giggs believes N’Golo Kante is more deserving of the PFA player of the year award than his Chelsea team-mate Eden Hazard.
The France international moved to Chelsea in a big-money deal from defending Premier League champions Leicester City at the end of the 2015-16 season.
Kante was instrumental in helping Claudio Ranieri’s side to secure their first-ever Premier League crown in style after finishing 10 points ahead of second-placed Arsenal.
The 26-year-old could win the Premier League title in successive seasons with different clubs as Chelsea look to preserve their advantage at the top of the table.
While Eden Hazard has scored 14 times in 29 games in the current campaign, Kante has only missed one game in the Premier League season after bolstering Chelsea’s midfield.
Writing in his Daily Telegraph column about his Premier League team of the year, former Manchester United midfielder Giggs explained why Kante has impressed more than Hazard:
“He would have my vote for player of the year. A close one between him and Hazard in second place. But I just think Kante has been outstanding for so long that he deserves it.”
Chelsea will take on Giggs’ former club Manchester United in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
