Pundit: Chelsea have really missed this player, Pedro can’t replace him
Former Chelsea winger Pat Nevin believes Victor Moses has been missed in Antonio Conte's first-team
Pat Nevin believes Chelsea are really missing Victor Moses after a couple of shaky defensive performances in the wing-back’s absence.
The Nigeria international missed Chelsea’s surprise 2-1 loss against his former employers Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
Antonio Conte opted to start with World Cup winner Pedro Rodriguez in a wing-back role but the former Barcelona man struggled.
Chelsea were 2-1 winners against top-four rivals Manchester City at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night but the Blues endured a tough evening as Pep Guardiola’s side gave their defence a rigorous test.
Moses has been ever-present in the Chelsea side since a 3-0 loss to Arsenal back in September and the west London side have only lost two games in 24 outings since that derby at The Emirates.
Speaking to Irish radio station Newstalk about Chelsea’s struggles in the absence of Moses, former Blues winger Nevin said:
“Pedro isn’t going to cover back the way Moses did. If you look at where the two goals came from, it was precisely that area.
“Azpilicueta has to go and drag out and leave Chelsea two at the back. They don’t look so great with two at the back.”
Chelsea are in seven points clear of second-placed Tottenham Hotspur in the title race.
Moses moved to Chelsea from Palace before going out on loan to Liverpool and West Ham.
