Ryan Giggs hails great Chelsea signing: He makes Antonio Conte’s side tick
The Manchester United legend has been impressed with David Luiz's performances in the Chelsea side
Ryan Giggs has hailed David Luiz’s performances in the Chelsea side this season.
The Brazil international moved to Chelsea from Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in last summer’s transfer window in a surprise return to Stamford Bridge.
Antonio Conte’s decision to bring Luiz back to Stamford Bridge attracted criticism after the South American’s erratic performances in his first spell at the west London club.
However, the 29-year-old defender has established an impressive partnership with Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill at the heart of Conte’s defence over the course of the campaign.
Chelsea have the second-best defensive record in the Premier League after conceding 25 times in 31 games in the 2016-17 campaign.
Luiz will come up against the manager who opted to sell the defender to PSG in a 50m deal in 2014 when Chelsea take on Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United side at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to the Daily Telegraph about Luiz’s performances in his first season back at Stamford Bridge, former Manchester United midfielder Giggs explained why the defender secures a place in his Premier League team of the year.
“He has made a great return to Chelsea. He has hardly put a foot wrong and ideal for passing the ball out of the centre of a three-man defence. A major part of what makes Chelsea tick,” Giggs said.
